City of Rochester Getting $50K for New Banners

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The City of Rochester is getting $50,000 from New York State for new banners that will hang on light poles.

State Sen. Jeremy Cooney (D, 56), who was behind the new initiative, said Downtown neighborhoods already have banners that act as "Welcome signs" throughout the city, however, he believes many are in need of updates and some of our most historic communities are underrepresented.

"The workers of today and the workers of tomorrow don't want a dust bowl going down Main Street," Cooney said. "They want to see vibrancy, they want to see creativity, and they want to see identity. And their neighbors who live in Downtown Rochester already know that. They've been investors in the vision for Downtown Rochester."

Cooney said the goal is to build community pride and help Rochester neighborhoods stand apart from each other.
