Senator Kaplan honors local fencing champions
On Thursday, July 28, Senator Anna M. Kaplan (D-North Hills) presented Proclamations to accomplished local students Jayden and Dylan Hooshi of Jericho High School, in recognition of their incredible academic achievements and their achievements as part of the USA Fencing team.
Jayden Hooshi, a rising Freshman, recently claimed a silver medal in the world’s largest fencing competition, the USA Fencing Summer Nationals Championships, and was the third nationally ranked fencer in his age bracket for the 2020-2021 season.
His brother Dylan Hooshi, a rising Senior, is ranked first for his age in the USA for men’s foil fencing, he recently won an individual bronze medal for Team USA at the Pan American Championship in Peru, and was the youngest fencer in the world to compete in the Grand Prix in Turin, Italy.
Senator Kaplan said “I’m in awe of the incredible achievements of these two rising stars from our own community. Jayden and Dylan’s extraordinary dedication to their sport and their studies are a source of pride for all Long Islanders, and their successes on Team USA are a source of pride for every American. I’m honored to recognize them with Proclamations on behalf of the State of New York, and I’m proud to cheer them on as they continue to soar to new heights.”
