Syracuse, NY – Last week, Senator John W. Mannion today highlighted ‘National Diaper Need Awareness Week’ and presented CNY Diaper Bank founder Michela Hugo with the New York State Senate Empire Award for her exemplary service to the community.

Senator John W. Mannion (SD-50) said, “The children of Central New York – particularly those living in poverty or difficult situations need our support and it is our collective obligation to ensure their wellbeing. CNY Diaper Bank has an outsized role in our community where it is the touchpoint for so many in need of services and support. CNY Diaper Bank and founder Michela Hugo go above and beyond to help our neighbors and are truly deserving of this recognition.”

Every baby and young child needs an adequate supply of diapers for their health and wellbeing – it is a basic human need. The average monthly cost for diapers is approximately $100, which can be a major burden or even cost prohibitive for low-income families. To meet this urgent need, CNY Diaper Bank distributed two million diapers last year and six million since 2016. A family who goes to the diaper bank receives 50 diapers a month per child – no questions asked.

National Diaper Need Awareness Week runs from September 24 – October 2 and if you’d like more information on the CNY Diaper Bank, please call Senator John W. Mannion’s office or visit www.cnydiaperbank.org.
