Senate of the Republic receives delegation from the New York Senate

The Senate of the Republic received the first visit of a delegation from the New York State Senate, with the purpose of strengthening institutional relations and unifying efforts in favor of Dominicans and the diaspora in the United States.

At the meeting, the senators exchanged experiences, analyzed the advances that the Dominican legislative body has experienced in the last two years, and also discussed actions that they would develop jointly.

The president of the Senate of the Republic, Eduardo Estrella, thanked the visit of the senators from New York, which is part of an important step forward in relations between Dominican and New York legislators.

“Welcome to the house of democracy in the Dominican Republic, where we senators have worked hard to organize a new, different and close Senate. We are pleased to show you the great progress we have made in a short time”, said the president of the Upper House.

The visit took place after an important rapprochement between Senator María Trinidad Sánchez, Alexis Victoria, and his counterpart for the 32nd District of the Bronx, Luis Sepúlveda, who served as a liaison between both institutions.

“The conversations have focused on recognizing the importance of the large Dominican diaspora that we represent in the State of New York for our communities, reaffirming our commitment to work for their well-being and progress. The attentions of our colleagues from the Senate of the Dominican Republic and government officials and their attitude towards improving people’s lives make us more committed to working for a common agenda,” said the senator for the 32nd District of the Bronx, Luis Sepúlveda .

The delegation from the New York State Senate that visited the Senate of the Republic was made up of Luis Sepúlveda, Senator from the 32nd District of the Bronx; Gustavo Rivera, Senator from District 33 of the Bronx; Leroy Comrie, from the 14th District of Queens; Kevin Parker of Brooklyn’s 21st Ward; Al Taylor of the 71st Ward in Upper Manhattan; and Phil Ramos, from Long Island District 6.

The New York State Senators were joined by Joanna Méndez, Chief of Staff of the New York State Senate; Hennessy Reyes, New York State Senate Deputy Chief of Staff, and Rusking Pimentel, New York State Senate Communications Director.

The delegation was received in the Multipurpose Room of the Senate of the Republic, by the president of the Upper House, Eduardo Estrella (Santiago); Senators Santiago José Zorrilla (El Seibo), Vice President of the Senate, also participated; Antonio Taveras Guzmán (Santo Domingo Province); Eddy Nolasco (Valverde); Melania Salvador (Bahoruco); Lenin Valdez (Monte Plata); Alexis Victoria (Maria Trinidad Sanchez); Dionis Sánchez (Pedernales); Antonio Mars (Santiago Rodriguez); Aris Yván Lorenzo (Elias Pina); Faride Raful (National District); Ramón Pimentel (Montecristi); and Felix the Baptist (San Juan)
