‘A day of mourning and prayer;’ BP Fossella speaks in support of Israel
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Borough President Vito Fossella and other Staten Island elected officials held a solidarity event Tuesday with the Council of Jewish Organizations (COJO) for victims of violence in Israel.
COJO is a community organization committed to serving the Jewish community and Staten Island as a whole. COJO offers support and fosters community engagement through events across the Island.
Said Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (D- Staten Island/South Brooklyn): “What is happening in Israel is an absolute travesty. To witness the horrors of the footage from overseas is sickening. Our community must come together to stand firmly in solidarity with the local families who have been impacted and denounce hatred and antisemitism that runs rampant.”
“What I also find disturbing is that in NYC over the weekend, they showed a blatant disregard for these atrocities on Israelis by holding a rally for some of the perpetrators. It is an absolute disgrace and a slap in the face to people suffering,” she added. “Make no mistake, we stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters and denounce the brutality of this terrorist attack. Let us pray for the victims and for peace.”
