A recipe for disaster’: Staten Island elected officials beg mayor to restore canceled school safety agent class
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island elected officials on both sides of the aisle are taking a stand against the cancellation of the upcoming school safety agent class, citing the negative impact it will have in borough schools.
In a press conference set up by Assemblyman Michael Tannousis (R-East Shore/South Brooklyn), Staten Island elected officials condemned the cancellation of the class of 250 school safety agents announced recently by Mayor Eric Adams’ office.
The bipartisan group brought together by Tannousis includes Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn), Borough President Vito Fossella, District Attorney Michael McMahon, State Sen. Andrew Lanza (R-South Shore), State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (D-North Shore/South Brooklyn), Assemblyman Michael Reilly (R-South Shore), Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo (R-Mid-Island), City Councilwoman Kamillah Hanks (D-North Shore), City Councilman Joseph Borelli (R-South Shore), and City Councilman David Carr (R-Mid-Island), Mona Davids, founder of the NYC School Safety Coalition, and John Ricottone, first vice president of community education for Council District 20.
