NEW YORK – New York City Mayor Eric Adams today announced the appointment of Edward A. Caban as the 46th commissioner and Tania Kinsella as the 45th first deputy commissioner of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Caban is the first Latino to serve as commissioner of the NYPD in its 178-year history, and Kinsella is the first woman of color to serve as first deputy commissioner in NYPD history.
See below for what they are saying:
“With their extensive experience and proven dedication to serving New York, I have no doubt that newly appointed Commissioner Edward Caban and First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella will excel in their new roles in the NYPD,” said New York State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton. “Commissioner Caban has served New York City for decades – from the Bronx to Manhattan and then over to Brooklyn, he has helped protect New York City for almost three decades. I have known Tania Kinsella since she was an officer at the 120th Precinct, and I’ve had the privilege of working with her to keep our district safe from Coney Island to the North Shore of Staten Island. Tania brings an unparalleled level of commitment and compassion to every role she has held at the NYPD, and that’s why I am so proud to see her elevated to first deputy commissioner. I have been grateful for her advice and guidance throughout the years and am looking forward to continuing to work with her to keep Senate District 23 safe.”
