Queens state Sen. John Liu discusses bill for tuition liability policies
Queens state Sen. John Liu discussed COVID-19’s impact on higher education, including The New Deal for CUNY. It increased full-time faculty, improved adjunct professor pay and reduced tuition and fees. Liu discussed the difference it’s making for colleges and universities across the state as we emerge from the pandemic.
As the Chair of the Education Committee, Liu has been a big advocate for smaller class sizes. He also explained why he sponsored the bill to mandate tuition liability policies, which requires schools to give students a notice of tuition liability and withdrawal policies. Liu discussed President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan that is currently in legal limbo and his hopes for the initiative. The plan would forgive up to $20,000 in student loans per borrower.
