Skoufis announces $145,000 grant for Town of Monroe generators
Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) announced a total of $145,000 for the Town of Monroe to purchase backup generators at the town’s Senior Center, Highway Department, and Water District 1 facilities. The funding, requested by Councilmembers Mary Bingham (D) and Dorey Houle (R), will provide a critical backup power source at key municipal facilities residents rely on.
“With ever-increasing extreme weather events and our aging power grid, local municipalities face numerous obstacles to keeping the lights on and the water flowing,” said Skoufis. “I am pleased to deliver this important funding for our Town of Monroe constituents, ensuring uninterrupted municipal services on behalf of local taxpayers.”
Skoufis’ grant will enhance existing service at Water District 1 (“WD1”), however, the town faces anticipated improvements to the water system to the tune of $1.1 million. Residents relying on WD1 are encouraged to attend the town’s October 21, 2024, public hearing, where council members will weigh bonding to address these costs.
