Skoufis holds town hall meeting in Port Jervis (VIDEO)
State Senator James Skoufis (D-Cornwall) was in Port Jervis during his ”Skoufis on Your Street” summer town hall meetings series with constituents to let them air their concerns.
Port Jervis resident Michael Latini expressed frustration over fees that have increased to offset MTA expenses. Latini feels that he’s being taxed for services he doesn’t need or use, he said during the Monday session.
“Instead of paying $35 for my two motorcycles, I now pay $85. It took me two years to find out why there was such a drastic increase. It’s because of the MTA tax,” he said.
Gina Kent, a resident of the Town of Deerpark, is hoping to get the roads in her area fixed.
”Route 211 and 209 in Deerpark are really bad and I don’t see anything where it’s going to be fixed,” she remarked.
The Senator spoke about legislation that was passed including a plan he pushed that installed a state monitor at the Orange County Industrial Development Agency which promotes business development in the county by offering business tax incentives to qualified companies.
