New York ranks low in federal veteran aid as governor rejects resource database proposal

Each year around 200 thousand service members transition from the military to civilian life, according to the Pew Research Center; finding support like housing or employment can pose challenges.

Democratic Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton authored the bill and sits as the Chair of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs Committee said, "It is estimated that only 17% of our veterans access state benefits that are available to them. My bill intent is to improve this percentage by making state agency information easily accessible to veterans, their families, and veteran advocates under one uniformed statewide database.
