STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Staten Island elected officials and union representatives are urging the MTA to address the hundreds of buses that are currently in disrepair, causing service disruptions across the borough.

At a press conference on Thursday from the front of the Yukon Bus Depot in New Springville, officials stated that 304 of the 798 MTA buses in total on Staten Island are currently out of service or in need of repair, and are routinely failing to make it out of the depot.

The borough president and union leaders were also joined at the press conference by the following community leaders: Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn); Councilman David Carr (R-Mid-Island); Councilman Joseph Borelli (R-South Shore); Assemblyman Michael Tannousis (R-East Shore/South Brooklyn); Assemblymember Michael Reilly (R-South Shore), and representatives for State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (D-North Shore/South Brooklyn) and District Attorney Michael E. McMahon.
