On October 27, the American-Irish Association of Westchester celebrated their 50th anniversary with a dinner dance at the Fairways at Dunwoodie.
The annual Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated and recently deceased members and deceased former presidents and board chairpersons were remembered at Mass.
This year’s honorees were:
Irish Man of the Year was John Donaghy, Irish Woman of the Year Denise Donaghy who are a husband and wife team.
Father Paul Mooney a Mill Hill Missioner Priest received the Saint Patrick Spirit Award
Keith Murphy was the recipient of our Irish American Community Service award.
Entertainment was provided by the New York Studio of Irish Adult Dancers, and harpist students and students of the popular Brigid Flynn Dance School.
The association each year provides scholarships, sponsors the annual Heritage Day co-sponsored with the Westchester County Parks and Recreation Department and the annual dinner Dance and Mass. We aim to preserve the foundation of our Irish heritage to keep the “tradition alive” and to ensure the continuation and celebration of our cultural identity.
