Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a $2 million initiative to bolster suicide prevention efforts and mental wellness programs for military veterans and uniformed personnel, including law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical service personnel, corrections officers, and emergency dispatchers.

State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton underscored the urgency of addressing the mental health crisis within the veteran community. She said, "Each day, 22 veterans tragically take their own lives, underscoring the urgent need to address the mental health crisis within the veteran community".
