STATEN ISLAND N.Y.-- State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (D-North Shore/Southern Brooklyn) was honored as Legislator of The Year by the Greater New York Chapter of the American Red Cross this past Friday. Scarcella-Spanton, who serves on the Chair of the Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs Committee, was one of the five legislators who celebrated their commitment and honor to the life-saving work of the Red Cross.
“We are honored to recognize New York State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton as the 2025 Legislator of the Year for her unwavering partnership and support of the American Red Cross in Greater New York,” said Doreen Thomann Howe, regional CEO, American Red Cross in Greater New York. “Her dedication and tireless efforts to advocate for the needs of our community have made a significant impact before, during and after emergencies big and small. We are grateful for Sen. Scarcella-Spanton’s continued support and look forward to working together to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.”
Sen. Scarcella-Spanton was recognized for her outstanding dedication to the Red Cross’ mission of preventing and relieving human suffering during emergencies. Sen. Scarcella-Spanton actively participated in the Home Fire Campaign, a drive aimed at reducing fire-related deaths and injuries. She has helped guarantee that families in Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn were and are now better equipped with the resources needed to stay safe in their homes.
“I am truly grateful to be recognized by the Greater New York Chapter of the American Red Cross,” said Sen. Scarcella-Spanton. “This past summer, I had the opportunity to work alongside their incredible team to install smoke detectors for families in need throughout my district. Fire safety is a serious concern, and it’s so important that we continue to raise awareness and make sure that every New Yorker understands the importance of being prepared. The Red Cross is helping to build a safer, more resilient future for all our families, and I am proud to be an advocate of the great work they do every day.”
