ALBANY -A BILL TO ESTABLISH AN INSURANCE LIAISON WITHIN THE DISASTER PREPAREDNESSCOMMISSION has passed on the New York state Senate floor, with a 60-0 vote and three excused absences. The bipartisan Senate Bill 2069, sponsored by Brooklyn-Staten Island StateSenator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, creates a statewide insurance liaison position to enhance disaster response and recovery efforts and to address longstanding challenges and uncertainties surrounding insurance coverage during disasters.
The bill has been delivered to the State Assembly for discussion and a vote. Although Governor Kathy Hochul vetoed the legislation last year, Scarcella-Spanton remains committed to its passage, emphasizing what she views as an urgent need for the position.
