Vetoed before, bill to​ establish insurance​ liaison passes state​ Senate this term

ALBANY -A BILL TO ESTABLISH AN​ INSURANCE LIAISON WITHIN THE​ DISASTER PREPAREDNESS​COMMISSION has passed on the New​ York state Senate floor, with a 60-0​ vote and ​ three excused absences. The​ bipartisan Senate Bill 2069, sponsored​ by Brooklyn-Staten Island State​Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton,​ creates a statewide insurance liaison​ position to ​ enhance disaster response​ and recovery efforts and to address​ longstanding challenges and​ uncertainties surrounding insurance​ coverage during disasters.

The bill has been delivered to the State​ Assembly for discussion and a vote.​ Although Governor Kathy Hochul​ vetoed the legislation last year,​ Scarcella-Spanton remains committed​ to its ​ passage, emphasizing what she​ views as an urgent need for the​ position.​
