State Senator Malcom A. Smith Bestows Grant On Kew Gardens Hills Civic Association

State Senator Malcom A. Smith (D-Queens) announced today that the Kew Gardens Hills Civic Association (KGHCA) are the recipients of a grant which will provide funding for the beautification of three public spaces. The spaces chosen include the Haym Solomon Triangle, the Rabbi Usher Kischblum Triangle, and Freedom Square Park.

Senator Smith, who was thrilled to be able to provide this grant to the Association, said "Since it’s creation, more than 60 years ago, the KGHCA has dedicated themselves to the caring of local parks. I am so pleased to be able to continue assisting the Association by awarding another grant this year."

As a result of last year’s grant from the Senator, as well as support from New Yorkers for Parks and the Queen’s Coalition for Parks, the KGHCA was able to plant 1,000 bluebells and close to 500 daffodils. Their goal is to add even more splendor to local parks through the inclusion of rambling roses and perennials.

One of this year’s highlights for the KGHCA will be it’s sixth annual community concert in June, which takes place in Freedom Square. The concert is free and open to the public, it attracts hundreds of local residents, including elected officials. Senator Smith said this will be a great opportunity for the KGHCA to showcase their efforts.

"The Kew Gardens Hills Civic Association, as well as the Department of Parks, do an outstanding job of beautifying our local parks. They create glorious spaces where residents can enjoy a delightful reprieve from city life. I can’t wait to see their progress this year, as I am sure they will continue to do an outstanding job of making our local parks a place of beauty for all to enjoy," said Senator Smith.
