In an effort to better serve individuals, families and professionals in Orange and Ulster Counties, the Alzheimer’s Association of the Hudson Valley Chapter has expanded its helpline to provide telephone assistance 24 hours a day, every day, including weekends and holidays.
The 24-Hour Helpline provides information and referrals and gives family members and caregivers the opportunity to talk with a staff member or trained volunteer. The Helpline can be reached at: 1-800-272-3900.
Also, it is extremely important for caregivers, other family members, and people with Alzheimer’s disease to be able to express their feelings and concerns regarding their situation. Participating in a support group is one of the best ways to get caregiving tips, support, and learn about other available resources. Support groups are located throughout our area. Both day and evening groups are available. On-site respite is available during some groups. The following are located in Orange and Ulster Counties.
Orange County: Elant at Goshen Adult Home; The Desmond Estate in Newburgh; Elant at Newburgh Conference Room; Hospice of Orange; Orange County Residential Health Care in Goshen.
Ulster County: Greenkill Ave. ADC in Kingston; Canal Lodge Adult Day Care in Ellenville.
To sign up for a support group, call 1-800-872-0994.
In addition, the Association provides a Safe Return number for the purpose of reporting a missing person: 1-800-572-1122.
Also, the Orange County Regional Office can be reached at (845) 342-2247; Ulster County Regional Office (845) 340-8474; or www.alzhudsonvalley.org.
