Larkin Reminds Seniors & Families To Sign Up For Heap
William J. Larkin Jr.
November 9, 2005
This week, Senator Bill Larkin reminds residents that the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which assists lower-income seniors and families with heating costs in the winter, has begun accepting applications.
"Our winters can be extremely difficult, especially for seniors and the disabled," said Senator Larkin. "The HEAP program can help lessen the financial burden that cold weather causes. But we have found that so many people who are eligible for this program are not taking advantage of it. I urge anyone who wonders if he or she qualifies to apply as quickly as possible."
HEAP provides grants for heating bills ranging from $40 to $400 depending on certain guidelines. Both renters and homeowners can be eligible for assistance.
The income guidelines for the 2005-2006 heating season are listed below. For more information on HEAP, contact the Orange County Department of Social Services at (845) 291-4000 or Ulster County Department of Social Services at (845) 334-5000.
