Larkin Secures Library Grants

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced he has secured state funding for several area public library systems.

"Libraries enrich our lives and communities in countless ways," said Senator Larkin. "As a strong and vocal advocate of our local libraries, I am especially pleased that my efforts to secure these important grants were successful. I believe we must do everything we can to support them so that residents can enjoy these wonderful resources and all they have to offer."

In Orange County, Senator Larkin obtained a $20,000 grant for the Goshen Public Library. Funding will help develop plans for a new building, architectural drawings and models and a long range strategic plan for a growing Goshen community.

In addition, the Orange County Library Association has been awarded a $5,000 grant for the purpose of creating a website to help promote library services available in Orange County.

In Ulster County, Senator Larkin secured a $10,000 grant for the Southeastern New York Library Resources Council to continue construction on the Council’s office building and training room. The training room will benefit library staff from throughout Ulster County and beyond.

Also in Ulster County, Senator Larkin awarded a $2,000 grant to the Mid-Hudson Library System and its "Battle of the Books" program. The program encourages a love of great literature in young people by setting up teams of 6th through 9th graders in a friendly competition who answer trivia questions about 10 pre-selected books they have read.
