Larkin Secures Local History Grants

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced he has secured state funding to help preserve local history in Orange and Ulster Counties.

"Arts and culture play an integral role in the quality of our lives," said Senator Larkin. "I am pleased to be able to make this funding announcement on behalf of our local museums and cultural foundations. I know how hard the individuals involved in these projects are working to ensure we protect our local heritage and to preserve these memories for future generations."

The Orange County Farmers’ Museum, located in the Town of Montgomery, will receive $25,000 toward the construction of a Farmers Memorial building. The Memorial building will house records of previous farm history, artwork, and local artifacts.

The Cornwall Historical Society will receive $20,000 toward the costs of a new display cases and the production of print materials to help publicize upcoming events.

The Volunteer Firemen’s Hall & Museum of Kingston, Inc. will receive $7,000 for the restoration of antique fire fighting equipment.

The Orange County Citizens’ Foundation, Inc., located in Sugar Loaf, will receive $2,000 to conduct a study centered on preservation goals and the future of arts and culture in Orange County.
