The Eastside family YMCA will benefit from increased safety and additional recreational space, thanks to a $30,000 grant obtained by State Senator Cathy Young (R,I,C-Olean).
The funding will be used for the construction and renovation of existing property, converting a former parking lot into a fenced-in recreation area. The parking lot will be leveled and blacktopped, surrounded by a six-foot cyclone fence, and inserted with a pair of basketball hoops. The funding will also contribute to roof repairs to the program building.
"The YMCA’s East Second Street location is one of the busiest streets in Jamestown," Senator Young said. "Concern for the safety of the program’s youth, combined with the ability to improve the grounds, deemed this a more than worthy project. I was pleased to assist."
"We appreciate Senator Young’s great support for this community," said Mark Eckendorf, Executive Director of the Eastside Family YMCA. "Senator Young has been very proactive in supporting and understanding the needs of this community, and we appreciate the time she spends in visiting and learning about our programs and mission."
