State Senator Catharine "Cathy" Young (R,I,C - Olean) today announced a $25,000 state grant to benefit Allegany ARC. The funding will provide for purchase and installation of sensory swings and lift equipment for people with disabilities.
The swings allow for multiple therapeutic uses associated with Pervasive Developmental Disorder and autism, and provide many types of sensory input. The lifts will assist those in wheelchairs as well as prevent work injuries among staff.
"I was very pleased to obtain funding for this new equipment," Senator Young said. "This funding will enhance Allegany ARC’s great mission of helping individuals with special needs and their families."
"We appreciate that Senator Young has always been a supporter of every constituent including the individuals with differing abilities that we serve at Allegany ARC," said Richard Witkowski, Chief Executive Officer of Allegany ARC. "Senator Young's partnering through the member initiative program helps our agency support families and individuals, helping them participate in normal life experiences that are easily taken for granted -- opportunity, purpose, and hope."
