BRONX, NY – State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) hosted a Town Hall Meeting at Throggs Neck Houses tonight with the Chairman of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), Tino Hernandez. Senator Klein and Chairman Hernandez addressed community concerns, including NYCHA fees, education funding and building conditions.

In addition, Senator Klein, a member of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, presented the Throggs Neck Houses Residents Association with a $5,000 state grant he secured for recreational after-school programs at the newly-opened Throggs Neck Community Center. “After-school programs like this one are of tremendous benefit to our entire community,” Senator Klein said. “I’m pleased to have been able to secure this funding for Throggs Neck Houses and I look forward to seeing it put to good use for our children.”

Dwayne Jenkins, President of the Throggs Neck Houses Residents Association, thanked Senator Klein for his support. “We’re very appreciative of Senator Klein’s securing these funds to allow us to offer recreational programs free-of-charge to families who couldn’t otherwise afford to pay for them,” Jenkins said. “Making these programs available to our entire community helps keep our kids off the street and lower juvenile crime rates. Senator Klein has been a great advocate for the residents of Throggs Neck Houses and we look forward to working with him for many years to come.”
