MOUNT VERNON, NY. State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Westchester/Bronx), a recently appointed member of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, will announce he has secured a significant state grant for the City of Mount Vernon to make improvements and renovations at the Mount Vernon Armory, the largest senior center in the City of Mount Vernon.
"The Mount Vernon Office for the Aging does such an outstanding job serving the City's senior citizens, and I am pleased to have secured this funding to help ensure that they can continue their good work in a building befitting of the great contributions these seniors have made to our society," Klein said. "From my new post on the Finance Committee, I will continue working to bring our tax dollars back home to be invested right here in our communities," Klein concluded.
"Senator Jeff Klein has consistently championed the cause of community building in the City of Mount Vernon. We are extremely grateful for the generous contribution that the Senator has secured to assist Mount Vernon's largest senior programming facility," commented Mayor Ernest D. Davis.
Office of Aging Director, Geraldine Christiana said ,"This generous grant from Senator Jeff Klein will enhance the quality of life for our Mount Vernon senior's at The Armory and continue the vision of our Mayor Davis.
The Mount Vernon Armory, which serves hundreds of seniors daily, was constructed in 1887 and has not undergone significant renovations in over 100 years. Particulary during the winter and summer months, the building's 100-year old windows and aging exterior create indoor temperatures too extreme for many seniors to safely stand.
