Sen. Klein: School Aid To Nyc Rises To Record High In Budget

New York City schools, which is a first step toward fulfilling the Court's order of $5.6 billion over 4 years. The $427 million incresebrings this year’s total operating aid to a record-high of $6.47 billion.

“We only had one choice: It was to deliver for our kids,” Senator Klein said. “Today is a great day for the people of the Bronx and the entire City. Working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, we were not only able to restore the Governor's aid cuts but actually approve record funding increases for New York City, as a tremendous first step toward reaching full compliance with the CFE ruling. School construction can resume. Operating aid is up. Class sizes can come down. It’s truly a remarkable victory for the schoolchildren of New York State. And it’s long overdue.”

The legislation, which passed by overwhelming, bi-partisan votes in the Senate and Assembly, heads to the Governor for his signature.
