Senator Smith Announces New York State Department Of Correctional Services Recruitment Effort

State Senator Malcolm A. Smith (D-Queens) announced today that the New York State Department of Correctional Services is recruiting trainees to fill Correction Officer positions.
The New York State Department of Correctional Services is responsible for the confinement of approximately 65,000 inmates held at 70 state correctional facilities. Interested employees must successfully complete a yearlong training program. A trainee’s yearly salary is $28,444, which increases to $34,742 after completion of the training program.
The next civil service examination for the Department, which will be given in both English and Spanish, will be held on April 8, 2006. The deadline to sign up for this exam is February 20, 2006.
