November 28, 2006
State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4thSenate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, was on hand when the Babylon Lions Club celebrated their 70th Anniversary at the Venetian Yacht Club. The Senator presented the Club with a proclamation honoring them for their 70 years of exemplary service to the community.
The Babylon Lions Club became the fourth Lions Club to operate in Suffolk County when its charter was issued in October 1936. The Club evaluates the needs within the community and supports humanitarian projects in response to those needs. Babylon Lions annually contribute to the Guide Dog Foundation of Smithtown, the Long Island Eye Bank and the Glaucoma Testing Clinic at Good Samaritan Hospital. Members of the club volunteer to be on call to pick up and deliver corneas to hospitals 24 hours a day. And their Sight Conservation Committee annually collects over 1,500 pairs of used eyeglasses to be repaired and distributed to those in need.
