State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, was recently on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly improved Copiague LIRR Train Station. Senator Johnson, together with Assemblyman Sweeney, secured funding to replace some of the staircases at the train station and renovate the exteriors of the station building and platform waiting room. The exterior renovations included the installation of architectural accents over the existing facades of both the station building and platform waiting room exteriors. New entry doors and light fixtures were installed in both areas as well. Architectural accents were also placed over the existing facade of the newly refinished stair parapet walls.

"These improvements will go a long way toward making the Copiague train station safer and more aesthetically pleasing to the many commuters who use this facility on a daily basis," said Senator Johnson. "I am pleased that I was able to secure a state grant so that these important renovations could take place."

Pictured with Senator Johnson and Assemblyman Sweeney are other local elected officials, Long Island Rail Road officials and concerned members of the community, including representatives from the Copiague Chamber of Commerce, the Copiague Beautification Society, and the Copiague Downtown Revitalization Committee.
