Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that the Senate and Assembly have passed legislation (S.62) sponsored by Senator Larkin to authorize a five-day extension to seniors on their property tax bills should they need it.
The bill makes this option available to seniors receiving the enhanced STAR exemption. It also authorizes localities to extend the time period for these seniors to pay their real property taxes.
"This legislation will give seniors who receive the STAR tax exemption an extra five days to pay their property taxes," said Senator Larkin. "Many seniors depend on their Social Security checks as their sole means of income. They may find it difficult to make their property tax payments on the first of the month because of the delay in receiving their retirement checks. This bill recognizes that this deadline is tight and gives people more time to pay their bills while they are waiting for their Social Security checks."
The bill will be sent to the Governor.
