Larkin Announces Passage Of Sex Offender Registry Agreement

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation (S.6409) which will ensure that no sexual predators will be removed from the State sex offender registry on January 21st. This legislation was agreed upon by a joint conference committee made up of members from both the Senate and the Assembly.

Under the provisions of the new law, level one sex offenders will be required to be on the state sex offender registry for 20 years and level two and three sex offenders will be required to be on the state registry for life with certain level two sex offenders being allowed to petition for relief of duty to register after a minimum of 30 years.

"I am pleased the Senate and the Assembly were able to come to an agreement on this crucial issue," said Senator Larkin. "This legislation will prevent hundreds of dangerous level one predators from coming off the sex offender registry on Saturday, January 21st, and will require them to remain on the registry for an additional ten years. It is a tremendous relief to everyone that level two and three sex offenders will now be required to stay on the sex offender registry for life," said Larkin. "These individuals have demonstrated through their actions that they have to be supervised and monitored at all times. This legislation will ensure that the public will have access to this information to protect their families and their neighborhoods."
