Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that Governor George E. Pataki has signed legislation cosponsored by Larkin that will provide an additional $2.7 billion in STAR benefits directly to homeowners in New York State over the next three years.

The legislation will provide direct rebate checks to New York homeowners later this year. This new property tax relief plan builds upon the existing STAR program to provide homeowners and seniors with significant reductions in school property taxes.

"Property tax relief has been our number one priority in the Senate this year," said Senator Larkin. "I am pleased the Governor has signed this very important program into law. It will directly benefit hardworking taxpayers and put money back in their pockets."

Under the STAR Rebate Check Program, Orange County senior homeowners can expect to receive an average rebate check of roughly $337 this fall, while other Orange County homeowners can expect to receive average rebate checks valued at roughly $200.

In Ulster County, senior homeowners will receive an average rebate check of $260 this fall, while other Ulster County homeowners will receive an average rebate check of roughly $156.
