Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced the New York State Department of Transportation has committed approximately $2 million dollars for the construction of a sound barrier in the Meadow Hill community in the Town of Newburgh.
"Before the construction of Interstate 84, residents in the Meadow Hill community in the Town of Newburgh lived in a quiet neighborhood," said Senator Larkin. "But the noise from the highway changed that over the years. Many residents came to me to petition for a sound barrier that would reduce the noise. I am pleased to announce that, after several studies and much persistence, the New York State Department of Transportation has concluded that a sound barrier is warranted for this neighborhood. Construction is expected to begin some time in the fall of 2007."
The New York State Department of Transportation will design and construct the noise barrier.
