Larkin Holding Public Information Session On Nyri Power Line Proposal

William J. Larkin Jr.

July 9, 2006

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that he is holding a Public Information Session on the proposed twelve-hundred megawatt power line transmission project being put forth by New York Regional Interconnection. The Information Session will take place on July 11, 2006 at 7:00 pm at the Temple Hill Academy in New Windsor.

Invited to attend and participate at this Information Session are representatives from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Public Service Commission, who will give presentations as to their role in the NYRI proposal process and be available to answer questions from the public. Also invited are local town supervisors and county representatives.

"I have joined four other state senators who represent an eight-county area in opposing the power line project proposed by NYRI," said Senator Larkin. "The power line would cut through many communities in our districts, stretching from Central New York, through the Southern Tier, to the lower Hudson Valley."

"I have grave concerns about this project," said Senator Larkin. "Research shows there could be critical health issues associated with high-voltage electric lines. In addition, there are environmental issues as well as economic impacts. There is no question that these unsightly lines would affect the property values of area homes and the beauty and landscape of our region."

All individuals interested in the NYRI proposal are encouraged to attend.
