The New York State Senate has passed legislation (S.6614) sponsored by Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) that would authorize approval of reimbursement aid for the Wallkill Central School District.

The legislation is a special act that would allow the Wallkill Central School District to be eligible to receive a reimbursement for costs associated with its summer special education student program from the 2000-2001 school year that the district inadvertently omitted in its filing to the State Education Department.

"Because of the filing error, the school district has lost a significant amount of funding," said Senator Larkin. "Also, because of the technical nature of the education aid formula, it was necessary to create special legislation to correct the oversight. I am pleased that the measure has passed the Senate and hope that the Assembly takes prompt action now."

The Wallkill Central School District stands to receive $60,000 in aid from the State Education Department. The Senate has passed the bill, however, the Assembly and the Governor must also give their approval.

The bill has been sent to the Assembly.
