Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital is the recipient of a state grant in the amount of $1 million for the construction of a new helipad.

Senator Larkin lobbied for the funding which came from the Health Care Initiatives Pool under the terms of the 2004-05 Health Care Reform Act.

"It gives me great pleasure to have been in a position to advocate for this important funding on behalf of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital," said Senator Larkin. "The helipad will save critical time in the most urgent cases. It will eliminate crucial transportation minutes for those who are gravely ill or injured. The benefits are clear since the helipad will allow one of the Hudson Valley’s most prominent hospitals to provide yet another invaluable service to residents throughout the region. Ultimately, it will save lives."

St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital President & CEO, Allan E. Atzrott, said, "Senator Larkin’s support of this effort is vital in the evolution of our hospital. The addition of a parking garage, complete with a helipad, enhances patient care and eliminates the need for emergency transport via the local park. This project is the first component in the redevelopment of our hospital’s Newburgh campus, as well as the city in which we serve."

The new helipad is expected to be ready for use in less than a year.
