Larkin Supports Nonprofits' Participation In Conference

This week, Senator Bill Larkin reports to residents that the Institute for Nonprofit Leadership and Management at SUNY Orange in Middletown will hold its second annual conference for all those working in the nonprofit sector and the challenges they face today.

"Just because an organization has nonprofit status doesn’t mean it can ignore basic business principles," said Senator Larkin. "Like any business, nonprofits still have bills to pay and must work to maximize their efficiency and resources. This conference at SUNY Orange is a great opportunity for all the wonderful nonprofit organizations in our region to take advantage of the expertise of other successful authorities in the field. I encourage all of our local groups to participate so that they can continue doing the tremendous work they do in our communities."

Keynote speaker, Doug Sauer, Executive Director of the Council of Community Services of New York State, Inc. (CCSNYS), will speak on "The New Era of Accountability for Nonprofits." Other topics will include marketing and public relations, endowment building, master grant applications, planning and implementing annual and capital campaigns, change in nonprofits, issues impacting exempt organizations, and New York State registration and filing requirements for nonprofits. Workshop leaders come from both the nonprofit and private sectors and are experts in the nonprofit arena.

"The need for well-run nonprofit organizations is one of the most pressing issues in the philanthropic community," said Dr. William Richards, President of SUNY Orange. "In this economic climate of diminishing dollars, it is fitting for the Institute for Nonprofit Leadership and Management to sponsor a conference that will inspire and strengthen nonprofit organizations."

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the day will conclude at 4:30 p.m. Individual registration is $55 per person or $35 per person for organizations that register more than one representative.
