Let The Nys Dept Of Labor Assist In Your Job Search

This week, Senator Bill Larkin reminds residents of the job searching tools available through the New York State Department of Labor.

"Matching qualified individuals with the right employers is the most important service the New York State Department of Labor provides for job seekers," said Senator Larkin. "Anyone with employment questions should call the Department at 1-800-HIRE-992."

One service DOL provides is the New York Job Bank which is accessible by clicking on www.labor.state.ny.us., and next on "Working in New York" and then on "New York Job Bank." Most job seekers use it to search for local openings. But on any given day, individuals can search more than a million job openings listed nationwide.

Job seekers can register and post their resumes at the site as well. Employers can log on to post job openings and browse the qualifications of more than three million registered job seekers.

If you are a student or someone who is uncertain about what type of work to look for, try using the Career Zone page. Click on "Working in New York," then "Finding a Job," then Career Zone.

It is also important for job seekers and employers to meet face to face to learn about one another. Job fairs and recruitments are among the best ways for employers and job seekers to do this. To find out when the next job fair will be in your area, call the Hudson Valley Regional Office For Employment Services at (914) 997-8711.

Personalized service is also available at the regional office. I encourage residents to make full use of the Labor Department’s many services, and wish you success in your job search.
