Senator Larkin Reminds Residents Of Tax-free Week

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today reminded Hudson Valley residents that tax-free week begins next Monday.
New York State will waive the 4 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear purchases that cost less than $110 per item from Monday, January 30, 2006 through Sunday, February 5, 2006.
"Tax-free week benefits both consumers and local businesses," said Senator Larkin. "I would encourage hardworking area residents to take advantage of this tax break. As we all know, any savings can really add up."
Along with the elimination of the state’s portion of the sales tax, certain counties and cities across the state are also exempting their local sales tax next week. Ulster County has elected to participate in the exemption. Orange County will keep the local portion of the tax in place.
Retailers who may have questions or concerns should contact the Tax Department’s Business Information Center at (800) 972-1233. Also, retailers may immediately obtain information through the Tax Department’s web site at www.nystax.gov or through the Fax-on-Demand System at (800) 748-3676.
