Senator Larkin Says Mammograms Save Lives

May 4, 2006

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program, New York State’s official breast cancer hotline, in their annual Mother’s Day Campaign urging women to get mammograms.

"Mother’s Day is coming up," said Senator Larkin. "As we show our appreciation for the special women in our lives, let’s also use this occasion to remind our loved ones to take care of their health. Early detection, yearly mammograms and a yearly exam by a doctor will help them do that."

For more information and to locate an accredited mammography facility nearby, call the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program tollfree at (800) 877-8077. Callers can also get emotional support from the hotline’s specially trained volunteers, most of whom are women who have had breast cancer.

The program’s website is www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer.

The hotline has been in existence for 25 years. It is funded by the New York State Legislature, State Department of Health, grants and donations.

All services are free.
