Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins Marks Women’s History Month

(35th District, NY) —Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins inspired women throughout the tri-state area in person and over the airwaves in recognition of International Women’s Day. On Thursday, March 8th, Senator Stewart-Cousins served as a panelist at the Annual International Women’s Day Luncheon at the YWCA in White Plains.

More than fifty women turned out for the thought-provoking discussion on international women’s issues, ranging from health care to education to political empowerment. The event also featured founder and CEO of Sister to Sister International, Cheryl Brannan and Mildred Persinger, and Westchester County Legislator Lois Bronz, who is also an Honorary Board Member of YWCA-USA .

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins discussed the role of government and the importance of community involvement in the democratic process. She encouraged all of the women in the audience to participate in the election process.

“Women bring a different perspective to everything that we do. I encourage all women to be active in the political process to effectuate change to improve our communities. We must continue to fight for equality, education and access to healthcare at all levels of government,” said Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

The Senator then took her message to the airwaves at WBAI in New York City. Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins appeared in recognition of International Working Women’s Day programs. The Senator was interviewed by host Nada Khader, Executive Director of WESTPAC Foundation, during a lively half-hour discussion on women’s issues.

First elected to the New York State Senate in 2006, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins brings many years of community involvement and public service to the office of State Senator, representing the 35th District including Greenburgh, Mount Pleasant and the City of Yonkers.
