Chautauqua Opportunities Presented State Resolution

State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C - Olean) recently presented Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. (COI) with a Senate resolution praising their commitment to helping people to achieve the dream of homeownership.

Chautauqua Opportunities offers comprehensive housing counseling and educational programs for issues that face potential, new and current homeowners. Emphasis on homebuyer programs, default and foreclosure prevention, and various kinds of mortgage counseling. Program specialists provide advocacy and linkages with mortgage lenders, realtors, legal advisors and agencies with available funds, grants and services.

The resolution sponsored by Senator Young proclaimed June 2007 as Homeownership Month in the State of New York and acknowledges the role Chautauqua Opportunities plays in easing the anxieties of those purchasing new homes.

"Chautauqua Opportunities has enjoyed substantial success due to its focus on homeowner preparedness and post-purchase support," said Senator Young. "Their commitment to not only to individual advancement, but to the achievement of the American dream for many in the community they serve is to be commended."

Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. (COI) is a private, not-for-profit, community based organization incorporated in 1965 as part of a network of 1100 Community Action Agencies formed to implement the initiatives of President Johnson's War on Poverty. Since that time, COI has evolved in response to local needs and conditions and now has a number of designations and licenses related to specific programs.
