FLUVANNA — Construction of the new Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department is ahead of schedule and
officials hope to be moved into the Turner Road facility by October.
State Sen. Cathy Young, R-Olean, and county Legislator Jay Gould, R North Harmony, were among those on hand recently to tour the area, which is nearing its next phase of construction.
The building, finally coming to fruition after nearly two decades of planning, is being paid for by donations the fire department received through fund raising and a $25,000 grant Sen. Young secured from the state. Gould helped secure the the land for the new department. Nelson Masonry is handling the construction, while additional contractors are revealing bids.
Lou Anderson, of Ideal Coatings Inc., has committed to do apoxy-coating floors as a donation.
‘‘Our department isn’t that big and these guys are really helping us out,’’ said Dick Sedlack, a member of the building committee.
