Local Senior Citizens participating in the Heritage Group’s services will benefit from a new handicapped-accessible shuttle bus, thanks to a $25,000 grant obtained by State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C-Olean).
The Heritage Group is comprised of three Health Care Centers (Heritage Park in Jamestown, Heritage Green in Greenhurst, and Heritage Village in Gerry), Heritage Village Retirement Campus in Gerry, and Heritage House Childcare & Learning Center in Jamestown. Many of the residents at these facilities require transportation to and from doctor appointments, family gatherings, and other activities. Because most skilled nursing residents use walkers, wheelchairs or other assistive devices, transportation between locations will now become more convenient, cost effective and, most importantly, safe.
"The purchase of the new van should increase the Heritage Group’s capabilities and expand their services," Senator Young said. "This will enhance the Heritage Group’s great mission of helping senior
citizens and their families."
"The Heritage Group is honored to receive this grant from New York State," said David Smeltzer, Executive Director for The Heritage Group. "The wheelchair-accessible shuttle bus will allow us to provide comfortable and reliable transportation, particularly to those residents who utilize wheelchairs. We cannot thank Senator Young enough for her proven commitment to the seniors of our community. We look forward to continuing to partner with her to further improve the quality of life for those entrusted to our care."
