The Nunda Historical Society’s headquarters will undergo renovations to allow for archive storage, a research library and room for additional educational programs, thanks to a $25,000 grant obtained by State Senator Cathy Young (R,I,C-Olean).
The Nunda Historical Society was gifted their building in 1999. Renovations completed in the first few years have resulted in the building being used for history and musical programs, group meetings, public research, and other uses. In addition to offering educational programs for local school and youth groups, the society also holds regular hours when the museum and Rose Shave art gallery are open to the general public. The newly-added space will expand and improve the Society’s functions.
"The Nunda Historical Society provides a valuable resource for the community," Senator Young said.
"These renovations should expand not only the facilities but also the capacity in which the Society serves the public."
"The Nunda Historical Society is most grateful for the grant provided to our organization through the efforts of Senator Young," said Joan Schumaker, President of the Nunda Historical Society. "With this grant we hope to renovate most of the remainder of the building, making space for a larger archive room, a library, and additional displays. This facility is an important asset to our small rural community, allowing us to provide educational programs and a place to preserve and display our local history."
