Klein And County Legislator Johnson Call On State To Lift Burden Of Sexual Predators Off Local Law Enforcement

MINEOLA, NY January 26-With negotiations stalled yet again over a civil commitment law that would involuntarily confine the most violent sexual predators, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Westchester/Bronx) andCounty LegislatorCraig Johnson, released data showing that 74 of Nassau County’s 472 convicted sex offenders, or 16%, reside in the 7^th Senate District.

In addition, The New York State Department of Correctional Services released 1,000 sex offenders from prison in 2006, the last year for which that data was available—36% from New York City and 11% from the counties adjacent to New York City—adding to the more than 22,000 sex offenders currently on the state’s registry.
