Klein And County Legislator Johnson Call On State To Lift Burden Of Sexual Predators Off Local Law Enforcement

MINEOLA, NY January 26-With negotiations stalled yet again over a civil commitment law that would involuntarily confine the most violent sexual predators, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Westchester/Bronx) andCounty LegislatorCraig Johnson, released data showing that 74 of Nassau County’s 472 convicted sex offenders, or 16%, reside in the 7th Senate District.
In addition, The New York State Department of Correctional Services released 1,000 sex offenders from prison in 2006, the last year for which that data was available—36% from New York City and 11% from the counties adjacent to New York City—adding to the more than 22,000 sex offenders currently on the state’s registry.
