Statement From Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm A. Smith On Albany County District Attorney David Soares' Report

Albany County District Attorney David Soares' report is welcome news to New Yorkers. This should put an end to the Republican inquiry into the Governor and his staff.
Now is the time to put political animosities to rest, break through the fog of inaction that has consumed the Capitol in recent months, and move forward with important legislative priorities like paid family leave and economic development reforms. In light of this report, and the Senate Majority's indefensible hiring of a political operative masquerading as 'special counsel,' additional partisan inquiry by Senate Republicans cannot be justified.
I would like to thank the District Attorney for his rigorous investigation and conclusive findings which build upon a proven record of non-partisanship and independence by his office.
