Senator Johnson Gives $50,000 Boost To Brentwood Library’s Career Center

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently paid a visit to the Brentwood Public Library where he had the opportunity to visit the library’s Career and Educational Resource Center, for which he recently secured a $50,000 state grant.

The Center provides residents with the resources they need to either secure employment or enhance their career by offering counseling and training and collaborating with other programs such as the AFL-CIO-sponsored Apprenticeship Program.

The Brentwood Library’s Career and Educational Resource Center meets a genuine demand for career services from residents in the Brentwood Community, a growing number of whom speak English as their second language. The funding Senator Johnson secured will be used to purchase job information resources and career counseling services that will ensure patrons have the most up-to-date materials needed to compete in today’s job market.

"I believe it is important to have resources available for people who want to improve their prospects for obtaining employment or want to enhance their current employment," said Senator Johnson. "The Brentwood Public Library has been doing a tremendous job helping patrons achieve their career goals and this grant gives them the resources they need to continue to be effective. The Center is not only helping residents secure productive employment, it is helping employers locate skilled employees. This is critically important to the health and strength of our communities, which is why I am so pleased to support the Library’s efforts."
